During a late summer day a female dragonfly (green darner?) is lying the eggs well protected by the male, which holds her tightly at the head.

In order to get the nice reflection in the calm water a low view angle was necessary. A certain distance to avoid the insects flying away was crucial as well.

Solution? 4/500mm + 1.4x, monopod, chest-deep water, angle-viewer.

Also important: to get the blurring effect on the wings a 1/40 sec. shutter speed turned out to be the best, thereby the image stabilizer was very helpful to achieve a decent overall sharpness.

Levels, Saturation, USM

Very nice! Reflections, motion and interaction all in one shot. With a 1/40 SS, it looks very good for 700 mm.

You must have had a solid bottom to put that much $$$ that close to the water.

I also like the low perspective and the various position of the wings. Pretty nice and the reflections are great!

Nice work. I like the low perspective provided by the wading technique and the wing motion recorded in the DF to the right

Manuel -- This is a really well-done shot. It's very well composed and you had the perfect backlighting to highlight your subjects, and then you've photographed very interesting behavior. Nicely done and well worth the effort you obviously put into it.
