This a followup to earlier post per Tom's request. I actually debated which of these I should post. Ken, this is in "my back yard just a little east of town" The saved scan of this image was actually cropped a bit on the bottom for another project. The full frame of this image is better, IMHO

Scott,
This is a lovely specimen. It looks like the front of the lip is out of focus and there is a blue cast to the image. The white seem to lack detail but they don't seem over exposed. I don't know what happened but this image didn't translate to the web well. There have been a number of threads in the photo topics and digital topics about scanning slides and prepping for internet posting. If you can't find some answers there we'll be happy to give our work flow details.
I'll bet that the slide is gorgeous.
Thanks for posting,

This looks like a very nice image but it needs some processing to look its best. Too much of the white detail is compressed into the highest luminance values making it look overexposed and detail less. This is probably due to your scanner having a relatively low Dmax or the exposure of the scan being too high as well as the lack of exposure latitude in Velvia. The image also has a strong blue shift that could be corrected.

Thanks for all of the suggestions but I kinda doubt that they will be put into good use in the near future. The original slides were scanned with a Nikon (not sure which model) by a friend. They have no PS work done to them to my knowledge and my digital skills are probably rated lower than rookie. I do have PSE and may try some adjusting. Thanks again.

I tried some adjustments and was able to recover quite a bit of detail in the whites even from the posted image. I took the liberty of cloning out part of the grass behind the flower just to illustrate what you might do with digital processing. I applied a little sharpening.

Beautiful Showy! I will be up there this year.

Lovely shot, Scott- just the compositional approach I had in mind. Something was lost in the scan - I think Steve found it!

Yes, the second post is better. I knew that the slide must be a killer.
