Hello macro folks! This image may be more properly suited for the Elements of Mankind forum, but I posted it here to introduce myself. I'm a newbie in the world of macro photography and am trying to learn as much as I can about this crazy new world. Its a lot different that bird photography! Subjects are sparse around here right now, so I took to photographing some water drops in the ole kitchen sink. I used some colored plates in the surrounding area to bring in some color. This was my first time using my new Sigma 180mm Macro... nice lens, but I need to learn to use it! Hope that you like it!

Canon 1D, Sigma 180mm Macro, 1/5000 at f11, ISO400. 550EX at full power. Monopod (tripods in the shop).

No no no!
Don't put images like this over there Matt. This is where all the great stuff goes!! :)

Yes, macro is a whole lot of fun once you get the hang of it and it sure looks like you are on your way to producing some dramatic images.
Man I love stuff like this, and this has a wonderful sparkle and flow about it that makes me want to give this a try.
This is what I enjoy seeing over here, and it is images like this that inspires others to really set out and try something different.

Again Matt, ..................... love it!
Keep on posting buddy!!

Very cool. I quess that you had the flash in high speed sync mode.
Wonderful colors and clarity. I love it.

How'd you time that? Don't tell me you used your eye and finger. If it took any less than 250 shots to get one keeper like this I will be very upset.

Hello everyone! I had the setup in the kitchen sink with the water dripping at a fairly constant rate. The speed of the 1D and a little timing helped. I basically tried to fire when the drop passed over my lens barrel. This was the last shot of the day and one of only 4-5 keepers from about 150 shots. If my external battery pack for my flash was working (needs repair) I would have had a higher success rate because of the faster flash recycle times.
Thanks!
Matthew
