It was an intense, eerie feeling on top that day with limited time to get back to base camp before dark.

Guessing here--but I suspect it's due to the quality of the lens in a $20 digital camera!

Does make for some neat artistic effects, though.

What causes the effects at the edges?
EHK (enhancements of human kind) in other words PS (5 pixel radial blur).
