D70, Sigma 105mm, 1/500th, +0.3ev, f/8, Iso320, hand held, nikon Sb800 and Sb600 set up on tripods at 45 degree angle behind subject's flight path...

tried a much different approach both with lighting and with editing on this one….I had the flashes (sb600/800) set up remotely behind where birds are flying in to get sage and other flowers, trying to expose the backside with open wings, also using the long shadows of dusk to my advantage for creating the black background….then in PS I used the already dark background and adjusted the levels and shadow curve some to make it darker. I then used the history brush tool to apply heavy noise reduction to the background, bringing out the hummer’s details further, as well as increase of saturation by +15...some burn/dodge to various parts of hummer's body as well…this was a fun shot to set up, try out and work on….thanks for viewing!

What a beautiful comp and the subject along with the colours are outstanding. Amazing to see, phew this is wonderful. My daughter will be fascinated with this one as well, we don't have hummers and we certainly don't see work like this everyday

All the best and gorgeous work :)
