I took this last weekend while I was up in New York State at Harriman State Park. I'm fairly new to bird photography and hadn't seen this bird before. I only wish this were as sharp as the photo Chris Kayler took because I really love the colors of the backround and branches. As has been pointed out these birds don't stay still very long and I was using a monopod and not my tripod. I also realize the backround isn't as clean as it could be, but again this is part of the habitat. This is about a 30% crop, Canon Rebel XT with 400 f5.6, 1/500s, f/5.6 at iso 400. BTW, this is my second post on the forum. Thanks for looking,

Todd

A beautiful BG Todd! I really love those colors. Would prefer this if the bird wasn't centered but still a nice image. Good job getting him sitting still!

Absolutly superb Todd---I like the framing with the natural vegetation. The violet stick is the compliment of the yellow in the bird but might be a little too bright. The curving diagonal is dynamic, yet harmonious.Head angle perfect . The bird makes this shot great... the backround makes this awesome. Tone down the one violet branch and the whitish spot above are my only real nits. Instead of cropping(cause you really wouldn't want to loose anything out of this picture) I'd try adding back backround if you have it, so as to get the bird off center. Best kinglet shot I can remember seeing. Its killer

Todd,

Nice shot. I like the fluffy pose and the view of the yellow in the crown.

Like hoe you managed to get the crown visible with a super head-turn.

Colors of BG are lovely, nice details on bird. I prefer a less centred composition and would clone out the bright branch which crosses the tail.

Thanks for the great feedback everyone. I agree that a horizontal composition with the bird off-center definitely looks better. Good idea to clone out the bright branch crossing the birds tail Ofer.
