Great Tit - Parus major

I am not a flash 'pro' but here I didn't have another choice for a decent picture.

Eqp. EOS 20D, Canon 100-400L IS, Canon 550EX

Nice details. The bright area on the right is distracting IMO and the eye looks a bit strange...

Actually the light area is excellent because it provides a wonderful visual exit point for the traveling eye. We check out this gorgeous bird, we enjoy the tree,go to those tropical looking leaves and then out the door! Nice journey. I would definitely tone it down though, cause its only a little too bright, but don't eliminate it. Tremendous feeling of depth in this pic with those leaves. He's even looking towards that back door like thats where he's heading so there's a lot of tension here with that "something's going to happen here feel." Definitly crop off the left to the first leaf to augment the action. You could have a head turn towards us more, but because of things I mentioned I think it still works. You might brighten him up just a tad also for more subject separation. Going vertical would destroy all that I have mentioned but would still be nice, but in a different way. I love this pic and with some tweaking I feel would be awesome

The flash work is well done, I just wish the bird was looking more towards you.

Elroyie,

This is a very nice shot. I don't mind the background, but a slightly different pose with a better view of the eye would make it even better.

Works for me, Elroyie. Just wish for a smidge of a head-turn and a fully open eye.
Lovely though.
