A tree swallow dipping a pond for treats. The best I have been able to get so far of this behavior. I will have to wait till next spring probably to get another chance.

Nice capture. It looks like a big crop but still too small in the frame and too centred for my taste.

I like these forums. People tell it like it is and don't hold back. Its the only way to get better. Yes it is not as good as I wanted either but it as the best I was able to capture this year.

What Ofer said ...
Just want to add that for small bird in flight a higher ss than 1/800s is needed.
This is especially so if it's not a panning shot like this one, asti!

I have to agree with Ofer. However I know how hard it is to capture Swallows exhibiting this behaviour. We have Welcome Swallows that do the same and with my 70-200VR I found it close to impossible.
I'm hoping to retry my attempt the same with larger focal length in Nov.

I have to agree on this forum for telling people how it is. I'm on others that just say it's a great image even when it's crap :)

I know that it is not simple to catch it - so it is very good and I like it. Of course, I also agree with ofer and slower shutter speed could improve this photo.

Actually, this is the best I could have done with the available light other than pump up the ISO which I should have done. A higher shutter speed would have definitely made a difference here. Next year......

Great shot! Love the pose. Sometimes less is more when it comes to composition.

Thanks for sharing!

Nits mentioned already, I've shot Swallows a lot and predicting where they are going to be helps a lot, this type of grab shot is the norm..I covered the technique in the tutorial link below..

Crop the bird away from the cetre and it'll help the comp considerably...
