Philippine Duck (Anas luzonica)

Here's another bird found only in our islands, captured at Candaba Swamp, Central Luzon, Philippines. These ducks are very shy because of intense hunting pressure, and this shot was from more or less 70 meters and heavily cropped.

I was in a quandary whether to go portrait or landscape crop - in the end, I chose to go horizontal to show the water splash from the fore bird's take off. Would appreciate any comments or suggestions.

300D + Sigmonster (Sigma 300-800 DG), 800 mm, f/11, ISO 400, 1/800 sec

The action here is really great, though I wonder if there is anyway you could have gotten a lower angle on these birds. The splash adds a lot IMO.

Now there is a species of duck you don't see often. Wish I had a shot of one of these.

Thanks.

The best time to bird here is December to February - the migrants have all checked in and well rested after a long migration flight, the climate is cooler and rainy season is over.
