Nothing much happening at Bolsa Chica this morning... so I decided to play around with compositions with this cooperative Great Blue Heron that was standing on the metal drain pipe next to coast hiway.

MkII, 400/5.6 + 1.4, Manual Exposure, f8 @ 1/1250, Iso 400

As always, thanks for all comments and critiques...

Interesting. Part of the eye showing adds alot. I would clone out the dark spots at the bend of the neck

A bit of eye is good, more eye would be better IMO.

All I would do is boost contrast/saturation just a touch to give this a bit more punch Vince. I absolutely love the shot just as you have taken it, the partial eye gives a unique and stunning quality to this beautiful image.

I absolutely love this shot!!! 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) :) :D

I love the composition and the idea here, Vince. A little more contrast would make it even better :D :D

A nice study in abstract, Vince! :D
I too think a curve adjustment would pop this up a bit.

Good composition and I certainly like the details. Wish the eye was more visible.

Love it as is Vince. The partial eye is what makes the image work for me.

I'm thinking on this one.....on one hand I'd like all the eye....but on the other hand I'm rather intrigued by just the partial view. OK....intrigue is what it's all about....so don't change a thing. Well done.

Vince, The eye, whether partial or full, is the element of this shot that seems to make all the difference. Your creativity and artistic perception generated an unusual composition for which I, for one, am grateful.
