Found this bird among a bunch of ducks, lots of swans and Canada geese.
Kind of strange looking animal. My guess would be a hybrid, Golden Eye/Bufflehead?
Can anyone ID this one??

Dieter

You have just discovered a male Northern Shoveler. I had to laugh about the "strange looking animal". You're not the only one having trouble ID'ing this guy. Last week my husband called to tell me there were some "different ducks" at the golf course. Keep in mind that he is a retired Federal Officer who could give excellent descriptions of suspects but gave me the most scrambled description of the ducks I'd ever seen. Upon showing him pictures, he couldn't pick the duck "out of the lineup". I couldn't take it any more and drove down there to see for myself. There were 4 Northern Shovelers.....3 male and 1 female.

Nice shot of this guy. In different light, his head will show green.

Well, I sure was way off base on this one! This was the only one around on the pond.
Thanks to all for the clarification on the ID. I feel a bit embarrassed. Thanks again.

For not knowing what it is it sure turned out great, like the colors and open bill. Crop works for me as well.
Just havin' fun
