It's been a few months since I've been out photographing anything, so it was sure nice to be out after work this past Friday. I decided to check up on my favorite Bird (Avocets) at a local pond (Lakewood, Colorado). They were a little shy, so I decided to just park myself and wait. The wind was pretty bad, but the light was good. I like the looking back pose in the following.

All comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Vincent very lovely shot and a very good focus manual I'm guessing? or dose the 10D handle the 1.4x better than the 20D? Looking over your photo I'm just a wondering what it may look like with just a tad taken off the right side. Don't put to much trust in my opinion though I'm still learning myself

I also like the look back pose you've captured. These guys can be quite skittish! Nice one Vincent.

An absolutely gorgeous specimen in great light. I love the look back pose too. Maybe a slight crop off the bottom would strengthen this one, and if possible, shoot this at a lower angle.

Very nice.

I like the amount of room at the bottom, just about perfect - I wouldn't crop it. My first impression was also to take a bit off at the right, but it's probably better as is.

Beautiful.....and I'm so jealous as I keep getting shut out on the Avocets everywhere I go. I'll just have to be content to sit and drool over this one. I am noticing some halos around the bill, probably from sharpening and can be easily avoided by selecting just the bird to sharpen.

Gorgeous shot with sweet light, Vincent!
Suggest taking a little off the right and bottom to balance ...

Thanks to all for the comments/advice. I appreciate you taking the time to look.

Tom W. - No, it was AF (Al Servo) (I have bad eyes). I shoot so much with the 1.4xII, I don't think I've noticed a difference. The 10D does lack in the AF dept., but I manage to still get a few keepers. I imagine they will increase when I can afford the 1D MII

Thanks,
Vince
