A pair of nesting Australian Rainbow Bee Eaters. The female is digging the start of the tunnel for nesting. It can be up to a metre long with a nesting chamber at the end. Both sex's dig the tunnel. it is on flat ground as in this shot or into the side of a cliff or mound but always in sandy country near water. This pair have migrated to the southern parts of Australia for the summer breading season and will return up north in the Autumn.
Shot with a Nikon Z 6-2 and the 180-600mm Z lens. I am waiting for my Z8 to be delivered. F8, ISO 500, 1/2000s @ 600mm Shot in full mid-day sun as this is when the behaviour took place. |
