This image was taken during my final sequence with the Flicker nest. They fledged within a few hours, either later in the evening or early the next morning. In this image the two male young, who were always the most aggressive of what I believe were four total, are taking a good look at their surroundings before making the "leap". For those contributors old enough to remember the comedy movie "Back to School", Rodney Dangerfield in his closing commencement speech told the graduates not to leave home,"it's tough out there.  Let your parents take care of you". That is what I was thinking as I was watching the young Flickers as they were ready to depart.

Even without a parent in the scene, this is definitely a favourite of the series, Warren. It really tells the story as these fledging chicks are about to take their first step into the big wide world. Beautiful shot!

What a wonderful series you captured of this brood! Love the way they're competing at the hole for a "view".
