Adult Metallic Starling (Aplornis metallica) perched above its nest. These birds come from the islands to the north to nest in North Queensland. They arrive about August, and many are on their second brood now. The nesting colonies are generally dense and dark, and although I can occasionally get them in natural light only, I prefer to use fill flash on these to evenly bring out the green sheen and purple irridensecnce.
