This is probably not everyones idea of Bird photo art but I and a friend heard from local birders that these elusive birds would come out of the reeds in the early mornings at my duck pond.

I laid in the mud for a bit to get this lucky photo.
I had never seen one and I am not sure many people have.
Toned down and desaturated BG to focus on the bird.
The background is what it is. I do not think these birds ever come
out into an open area where a nice BG is possible.

Excellent presentation of this rarely seen species, Dan. The highlights in the background are a minor distraction, but overall this is a very fine image. Love the color and markings on the Rail and its calling pose.

Superb! Like the way it pops and the bg textures add context,

Not an easy bird to photograph Dan, usually takes a special effort, which you made and were rewarded.

Very nicely done. I agree these birds are hard to get in the open. Nice details and colors.
