Male Black-backed Woodpecker

This was a completely black tree a few weeks before.  The bird flecked off the bark to get at the beetle larva that infested the charred remains of the trees.  He successfully nested about 150 yards from this tree, flying directly to the nest after the photo, and with the whole forest destroyed by wildfire I could see his path clearly.
