I just returned from an incredible trip to New Zealand, starting off in Sydney, crossing the Tasman Sea and visiting both the South and North Islands. The scenery is wonderful and the avian life is equally fascinating. One spot I visited was Zealandia, which is a 560 acre wildlife sanctuary, within the city of Wellington. It is a 500 year project to recreate what New Zealand was 500 years ago as best they can. Unfortunately the day of my visit it was raining, but over all it was a very interesting visit. This was one of the subjects I captured within the sanctuary, a Tui bird. It is one of the largest in the diverse Australasian honeyeater family. This one, a male, was trying to show off for a near by female.
