Had a week off work last October so thought to share.  Had to make best use of my free time.  Cropped to suit the view I had in mind..

techs.. Old Fav'  D800.  Sigma 150-600 at 600.  F8 at 1/640 at ISO 1000.  DOF an issue with the look back pose but always a compromise.

What a super image, Dave! I love how you framed the owl with the rustic wood, and your lighting was first-rate! Beautiful composition with the look back pose and great eye contact.

Thanks Ron.  Appreciate your thoughts.  (you know I have the D850 now...  D800 has always been a wonderful image processor, but just for info I am not disposing the D500 either.   there is a place where I can use that any day...  being a DX it adds a  touch more crispness aka dof at 100%, so whilst I love the D800 and D850 they are still tools to tweak for what we want).

Just want to share Ron, that when the god of light shines, being from the Velvia 50 days, I get  twitchy.  lol

Really nice image, David. Love how the owl is framed - nice head turn and great focus on the eyes. Cheers

As good as it gets, Dave. Absolutely superb! Lovely pose and composition using the old wood to frame this little beauty, and the colour tones and light are as sweet as can be. What a pleasure to see!

Love it!

Carol.

Pleased to hear the D500 stays in your kit, Dave. Thanks for sharing your insight on these cameras — it’s appreciated.

Beautiful shot David! I love the framing with the tree. Great details around the face , where it matters the most. Very interesting owl.

A cracker of an image Dave, the setting makes a perfect frame and the rich tones of the tree bark really sets of this lovely owl. On my visits back to England I never fail to see a Little Owl hunting on a late winters afternoon, always a pleasure.
