Australasian Figbird  Sphecotheres vieilloti

Haven't shot many birds lately, been too busy getting underwater with my camera.  Last Sat was about 44°C outside and lots of birds coming into the bird bath, all obviously hot and stressed.  I setup the sprinkler next to the bird bath and soon this guy was getting wet and the legs/facial skin paler, quite a few birds just sat on branches under the sprinkler cooling off.  Lest it on till the Southerly hit.  First time I've seen a figbird in the yard.

Chris, Interesting bird. It looks like he's panting. 44 degrees C is 112 degrees F.

Before reading I thought it might be a singing pose, but that poor guy might just be panting.

Chris, very nice calling/panting? pose captured, like how the eye patch and feet color match.  Must have been really nice for them to enjoy the cooling station you provided.

Thanks all yes he was definitely panting, also holding his wings so as the help shed heat, as were many other visitors when they first arrived, some birds just took up a perch and sat under the sprinkler for 30+ mins.
