So I had some cardinals visiting my backyard feeder. I put out some lichen perches right above the feeder but the image still didn't seem to pop. I found this berry perch . . . better. But still not enough. The background was super light-gray snow. I took a sheet of 4'x8' plywood and set it 20 feet behind the feeder. That allowed the snow flakes to show in the image . . . still not enough. Finally I clamped several berry branches to the plywood to integrate the foreground colors into the background. Bingo! That was the shot.

One of your best IMO. I'd consider adding a bit of catchlight.

The perch and BG colors really do complement the cardinal's plumage well.
