Shooting through my window at feeder birds- too cold to go outside! Enjoying a my new Nikon D500...um, yes, I still have my Canon 7D, but trying to go lighter weight (in pounds, that is- hopefully not in quality).
Thinks tend to look better-( sharper?), I've noticed, when you click on them with the dark background- try it!

Nikon D500, 300 f/4 lens, f/4.5/, 1/500, IOS 1250. Cropped down to 50%, perhaps.

Nice shot, Cynthia.
Shooting through a window is always a challenge whether it is open or close.

Pretty good for shooting through a window Cynthia. So do you actually have the new 300 PF VR now?

Hey, Tim- I do! Have not had much time to try it yet, and still wading through AF stuff. (And figuring out how to pay for it...) :(

Hey Cynthia
Glad you're enjoying your new camera. One suggestion: Kick up the contrast in PP, and you will notice a great improvement. It may need just a touch of warming up, too.

Thanks Joe- I'll try that. The window grunge didn't help this much!

Good suggestion from Joe. Lovely subject and beautiful eye detail, a slight lift in contrast and correction of the blue cast would make quite a difference Cindy.

Tried out Joe and Carol's suggestions-is this better? I alwaays feel frustrated that when I post here, the image isn't as sharp as I made it on Photoshop. I use sRGB conversion from Adobe RGB, but it still doesn't seem to look the same as my PS version.

Much better, Cynthia. Notice the haziness is considerably reduced. I'm wondering why the foot on the right and branch around it is much clearer and richer in both images. I think maybe something was casting a shadow on that part of the window. If you continue to shoot out of this window, you might try shading the glass from direct sunlight. Looks like a great setup for bird photos.

Thanks Joe- as to the foot on the left, it could be window grunge, but the whole picture begins to lose sharpness going back at an angle, so it is not on the same plane as the front. When the weather is warmer I can probably open the window too. Certain times of day there are fewer reflections, and this bird was probably 10 feet or more from the window. That helps some.

Appreciate your thoughts and interest. We all learn from constructive criticism, I think.

Nice improvement, and much better color saturation in version two, Cindy. Glad to see you enjoying the new D500.

Thanks Ron! By the way, I "burned" the offending foot just now- it looks a little better. Also passed the whole thing through noise reduction. The possibilities are endless....until you get something that is no longer quite what you shot. Then off it goes to P&DA. :P
