Under very dark conditions, one of the times I wished I had a D5 and 600mm
and in my excitement I did not adjust my focal point, hence too much room at the top and not not enough at the bottom. I will be back in 2017 for another try and unless I win the lottery I will not have a D5 or a 600 mm. Any type of flash is not allowed when photographing this species.
Taken with a Nikon D7200, Nikkor 300 2.8. TC 1.7.
1/80 sec. f/4.8. ISO-800.

With the conditions - and no doubt your trembling hands, the image you achieved is quite gorgeous Rob!

These are without doubt my favourite of the Costa Rica heartstoppers, and you have a most beautiful image to show for it. Love it!

Still a beautiful image, Rob. Love the head turn back to the camera. Not re-adjusting the focus point, been there, done that.

Amazing shot given the circumstances.
I like the almost high key effect with the BG.
Wait for the D5s :))

Given the light and your state of excitement, I would say you did very well. Good choice on the vertical
composition, nice over the shoulder pose. Your self critique is spot on.

Not an easy bird to shoot and you did well for the tough setting.
Thanks for looking,
