It is hot and generally dry here but my favourite White-throated Kingfisher pair have completed a breeding cycle. They hang out at a semi disused motocross track. They forage for food to feed the chicks...lizards and frogs are the favourite food although larger and smaller insects are also captured. The small frogs are attracted to puddles left by overnight rain. Captured frogs are whacked on a branch to subdue them ....as shown...before they are flown to the nest.

Canon EOS1DX 500mm f4 lens plus 1.4 x, 1/5000th, f8, ISO 2000, Beanbag in SUV.

Apologies for my absence from Naturescapes

Most excellent action shot! I love the bright colors of both subjects and all the fine points beyond focus, exposure, composition and content/story come into play, especially the soft background. Congratulations on a very fine image!

Fantastic! I like how the frog's left, front leg is seemingly submitting. .

Also great to have you back - I always learn something from your posts.

Best,

Matt

Graeme, Never tire of seeing nice Kingfisher shots. The water from the frog, for me, makes the shot.

This image is more than an image. It is a story. More photographers should do this; i.e. take some time to research the animal and its behavior and then explain it. Thank you.

Opening this in the larger size is stunning!! The pose and the action captured are both awesome. I really like the details and the colors in this and the water adds a lot to the overall image. Very well done

Superb image in every way Graeme and the icing on the cake is Capt. Froggy saluting as his ship goes down!
