Grizzly Bear, West Yellowstone Grizzly/Wolf Center
Captive Image, 2003-10-04

D100 300/4 1.4x 1/320s f/8 Handheld
No crop, Fence removed in PS, Shadow/highlight adjustment, 12% saturation

The framing is a titch tight, but I think I got the exposure right on. It was difficult to isolate the bears in a "natural setting". This particular bear was the most aggressive, rapidly pacing around the area, occasionally charging the other two bears.

Not that I would hvae messed with any of them!

Rory

Thanks for your post here. I think you made an excellent self critique. The only addition I would make is that you not only got the exposure but in a very tricky situation. Hard top and back lighting. Your shadow detail on the "front side" is very good.. Thanks for posting here..

I like the photo a lot. In a strongly backlit situation like this, I find it very useful to underexpose the ambient and then fill in the subject with flash to control contrast and color.

I have a few shots from there too. Keeping fencing out is really hard. Great shot.
