Groovy pose, Jess.

Did you use flash on this?

I think that the compression just block up the shadow on the side of his face to look a bit darker that it is in the slide. That and the angle of his head makes it look like flash would be needed to get that catch light on the left side. No flash not PS except cropping and usm

Nice motif contribution JL.. This week we have seen it can be difficult to get clean shots of elk without distracting background elements. I really like the raised foot and the action here.. The head appears just a little soft on my (junky) monitor..and maybe another dose of USM would be of benefit. Thanks again for posting at NatureScapes.net.

Great pose on this one. I too like the raised foot. My only nit is the tree in the BG on the left keeps drawing my attention there.

He does look grumpy, but the eye shine makes him look just plain evil. It is a nice contrast to the typical calm elk pose we see most often.

Hey Jess,

This is a great image. IMO, the background only serves to enhance it .. it helps give me a sense of 'wildness' .. I'm not talking about captive Vs wild .. but another concept .. the look of the elk, the raised front leg, the open mouth and the direct, 'head on' view .. it's about wildness. placing him against a blurred monochromatic (read, generic) background would negatively impact this shot.

Cheers

Carl

Great pose & love how he's placed in the environment. Only question is what is the thing sticking out near his left eye? (I would definitely clone that out.)
