This is the same goat as in a few previous posts, from Jasper after the STL workshop. Canon Elan 7, 100-400 IS, Provia. Dennis' incident meter was a huge help here as the goat kept moving between sun and shadows. Thanks! :)

Excellent shot, Kelly. I like how the patch of snow behind the horns kept the horns from blending into the bg.

Very nice. :)

A. Your welcome
B. Excellent shot. I like the rocky environmental features which really shows how these guys live.
C. Still kicking myself for not going up there.

Dennis, Keep kicking! You should have come. I had a great day, starting with sunrise along the Athabasca River, then the goat, then the Athabasca Falls, an eagle in flight that is just a blur because I had 100 film but you would have nailed, and then the sheep above Jasper Lake in sweet light at sunset. Am I rubbing it in too much? However, I didn't make it back into town for lunch at the Soft Rock Cafe.

Lunch is good, but even I would have skipped it for the goat!

Very nice shot, Kelly -- the exposure is right on and you've really captured his environment.

Hey kelly,

nice subject. A magnificent goat, in great fur. They don't come much finer than this one.

The presentation here looks a little soft to me, probably just some P/S stuff.

I'd like the subject to be either a little tighter in the frame (more dominant) or looser, and including more environment and 'room to move'. I'm not saying, of course, that I don't like this one, just what my preference would be.

Cheers

Carl

Kelly,
This is a very nice shot. Exposure looks great. Did you try any vertical compositions?

Gotta love that coat! Great job on the exposure. Great shot.

I was expecting a bit more habitat and a vertical crop with the title... maybe the next post?

Thanks for the comments! I wish I had a vertical shot but didn't get one. Although the goat appears to be standing still, it actually had been moving up the hill quite quickly, with far more speed and agility than I could ever muster. This is full frame. The problem is that the left side is in dark shadows, and if I lighten it any more that part loses a lot of detail. My original solution was to whack it off, and then do a bit more on the other sides to balance it out. If anyone has alternative crop suggestions, I'd love them.

Kelly, this is a wonderful shot! I like the second version better just b/c I like seeing the habitat more. I know it violates the "rule" with him being centered, but I like the full frame version.

Both are really nice, but I think I prefer the first, to really emphasize that gorgeous goat. (Seems funny to juxtapose those two words!)
