Whitetail Deer Odocoileus virginianus
Shenandoah National Park

Another buck from the Big Meadows area. He was content to stay with his does inside the edge of the woods and only came out to chase off rival bucks.
I'm not crazy about the branches on the left side, but he didn't want to cooperate and come into the open. Do the branches pose to large of a distraction?

Comments/critiques/suggestions welcomed.

Thanks for looking.

I can live with the branches. In an ideal world they would not be there but in this very nice environmental portrait they help show the wariness of this buck. I like it.

Concur with Cheryl on the branches. Like the colors & sharpness. Would work also with even more branches/room on the left IMO.

Chris, Nice shot of a nice buck. The branches don't bother me, and there's not much you could do about them probably. This seems to have a bit of a reddish cast on my monitor.

Since the branches couldn't be avoided, I think you did as well as you could. The size of the bush is large enough to give the buck some security and I like how the branches mimic the horns.

Very nice!!

I agree 1000%

I have no concerns about the branches. It's the environment this critter lives in and they are presented in an acceptable manner.

Excellent rut photo, Chris -- I can't get over how thick his neck is. I have no issues with the branches - in fact, I think they work as an anchor in the corner and nicely frame your subject.

Hey Chris,

Great buck. I like the framing of the branches. Shame he didn't perk his ears up for you, but I know this is the more common pose for them at this time of year. Could you tell was his left front tine broken, or just naturally like that?

Nice shot

Cheers

Carl
