This is shot from a pullout above Horseshow Park. On this morning, the elk headed to the willows and cover right after daybreak. This shot was made before the sun reached the elk. The next morning, when I was working magpies, the elk stayed in the open much longer after sunrise (which would have been nice for shutter speed and DOF). Rocky Mountain National Park, EOS-3, 600 IS, Ev. @ 0 or -1/3, approx. 1/30, f4. Slight crop for web; cloned out one animal fully in the frame (left edge) but to my taste too close to the edge. I have many other shots with fewer animals nicely positioned (i.e., no cloning needed), but liked the greater number of animals in this one.

Nice shot of this herd. Getting a clean shot like this isn't easy. Although the meadows are fairly large there are big boulders and small trees that can show up in the photos.

Very nice!!

Very good shot. I like the scattering of animals here.

Nice one Cliff. I am enjoying your mammal work. I like that the Bulls are around the periphery and you have the corners covered and really very few intersections, none that are distracting.. Good work as usual and thanks for consisting posting at NSN>

Horseshoe Park in RMNP is a great place to see Elk. I like the perspective here. It's almost like you were in a balloon or an ultralight and flying right over them. Very nice.
