I shot this lngnose hawkfish, Oxycirrhites typus in the Philpiines in 1999. They are trerritorial and like to hang out in seafans, often in pairs. I found this one for three years in the same fan. They make nice photo subjects because they are curious and will come out to see what the diver is doing if the diver stays still. Also, who could not love a plaid fish? About three inches long.
Nikon F4, Nexus F4 Pro housing, AF 105 Mcicro Nikkor with manual focus, two YS-350 Pro Sea and Sea strobes, f22 @ 1/125th, scanned Fuji Velvia slide shot at ISO 40.

Hi Chris, he is resting on the base of the seafan which was attached to a wall at about 55' depth. The fan polyps are yellow and the large branches are reddish-purple. The fan is still there and I give it a look everytime I pass it, usuall one dive a trip, and I generally find one or two of these fish on it.

Thank you. These little guys are great fun to watch as they move around a fan, going behind and than coming out to the front of the fan to see what I am doing. This fan being on a wall it is not easy to linger motionless and shoot images but I can still get a shot or two before my movement bothers them.

Another inspiring shot! The seafan compliments the fish nicely, even if the hawkfish looks like it should be running for a political office. (Plaid, the favorite color of a politician... )
