"Rutting" season has started for the hares , here in Belgium, western Europe; at this time of the year some of them take much more risks and can be much more approachable ; i stalked this one up to a couple of meters when he suddenly jumped up but did not run away but just sat there , looking around; Canon 10D, 100-400 mm, at 560 mm, natural light,

Nice catch of this alert looking Hare Herman! this shows well their large protruding eye which gives them such excellent all round vision. Now is the time of year when they go crazy and start 'boxing' each other ! 8) 8) 8) :D

Are all rabbits doing this this time of year? The last 2 times i've been to the manassas battlefield, I've seen 4 rabbits total. And all sat put until I was like 5 feet away (I didn't notice any of them before they bolted unfortunately). Anyways, sweet shot, love the green grass.
