An early morning (03:00) encounter with a red fox (Vulpes vulpes), high in at the arctic north (70° 32’N;30° 36’E) of Norway.
It only lasted for a split second, enough for me to squeeze off three rapid frames, before it turned and disappeared into the tundra. Yet that piercing gaze and the intensity of the moment stayed with me for days - indescribable. [Previously this isolated arctic refuge would have been the domain of its Arctic cousin, Vulpes lagopus, who sadly has disappeared from this region, and whose continued survival in Norway is in question. The combined pressures of climate change, insufficient numbers of lemmings. and intrusion by predatory species possibly sealing its fate. As such, the only place in Scandinavia where one may still see the Fjällräven in future, is on the outdoor clothing logo..... :( Nikon D500 with Nikkor 500mm PF Significant crop of original file Flickr Last edited by Swissblad on Sun Jul 24, 2022 7:12 am, edited 1 time in total. |
