Northern Maine last week - no hiking involved, taken right from my Jeep's window on a logging road. I had him for 10 seconds before he disappeared back into the forest. I always have my camera sitting beside me on the front seat ready to shoot on these daily adventures. There was about a foot of snow on the roads, but my Jeep JK had no problems. Next week starts the official snowmobile season, so 99% of the roads I use will be designated snowmobile roads only, so no other vehicles are allowed on those routes. A few years ago I bought a snowmobile specifically for Winter photography, and although it was great for landscapes, the snowmobile was too noisy for wildlife (and cold trying to use your equipment in those bitter cold conditions).  :(

In this particular case the old saying "Even a blind Squirrel gets a nut now and then" was true!  :)

An instant classic Mark. Stunning composition here, the gentle curve of the foreground snow leading to the birch and the moose really works.

Great image of this big boy contemplating the harsh winter ahead, Mark! A nice reward for being prepared on your travels.

Awesome image and great story to which I relate. For 13 straight years I have kept my camera and lens at the ready on the back roads here in northern Michigan.

Nice looking moose and setting. How was the tick/moose problem this year?

Mark this is a great image. I really like the green background and the snow to add mood. The pose with that perfect head turn are just stunning.
