We were driving at night in the Pantanal looking for wildlife when we heard a sound from the side of the road. Our local guide swung his flashlight in the direction of the noise, revealing the face of a Tapir standing. It was very dark, but I was able to focus on the face and get a shot. What a surprise when I got back to the lodge and saw my photo! The Tapir must have gotten too close to a mother Caiman with young offspring. Canon EOS 1DIV, EF100-400 @135, f/6.3, 1/160, ISO 1000, flash. I cleaned up a couple branches.
