This was an exciting moment from our Pantanal, Brazil photo tour last year.  It was near the end of the tour and we hadn't seen this species yet, several of the participants expressed a desire to photograph it.  Being as though it's a shy and uncommon creature that you can kind of encounter anytime but you never know when and it ranges wide areas, it's not easy to set off to see one. But our local guides managed to find one near a dirt road on Piuval Lodge near dusk.  I was duly impressed (with both our guides and the anteater)  By the way, this shot shows how they walk on the tops of their feet in order to keep their claws sharp.

Great capture, Nate!  Walking on the "tops of their feet" - how interesting! Guess those claws need to be fully functional when they decide to dig into an ant hill.

Great sighting and excellent capture of the tip-toe walking action - it can't be easy with those claws! Nice one Nate!
