Photo taken at Laguna Seca Ranch in South Texas four days ago.

Nikon D810, 300mm lens, 1.4 TC, 1/1600 sec at f/8.0, ISO 500.

It's not that common for Coyotes to be out in broad daylight.  This is one of a pair who are raising their young and are out hunting more often.  I was glad to see that both look very healthy.

Nice capture, Gene. I like the alert pose - it is sure checking you out. The habitat, including the cactus, definitely adds interest. Perhaps you will be able to get some shots of their young too.

Ron,  They have a den and based on where the Coyotes come from and go to, I could probably find it.  I don't know the habits of Coyotes well enough to be sure if I got close to the den, the adults would not abandon it.  I'll have to wait and hope to get some pup shots.  Seeing a Coyote during the day is not that common.  They are amazingly good at knowing where humans are and avoiding us.

A nice, natural habitat capture Gene, not the easiest light to work with but you made the best of it - worth clicking on the image to bring in the darker surround for the best view. I like the alert, inquisitive pose and good to hear they are healthy. My sister in Tennessee has three of them visiting her house out of the woods, and she says only one looks healthy with the other two appearing very mangy. Poor things.

Wile E. has that name for a reason :) Always on the alert, and this captures it well. It sure would be fun to see the pups when the get big enough to be out and about. I see some at a local preserve in to mid-morning on occasion.
