Here's another from our August Pantanal tour in Brazil.  This species is normally very wary but we were able to get out of the van and slowly walk up to this tapir drinking at a waterhole at Pousa Alegre Lodge.  Here I think he is trying to figure out what we are.

Incredible looking animal, nice that you were able to get a portrait of one. Really bizarre looking face! We had only one distant sighting.

That face is almost human! Quite unsettling Nate and a wonderfully expressive portrait.
