Dwarf Mongoose
LZNP, Zambia
EOS10D, 500 F4L IS, 1.4xExtender II, iso 100, 1/79, f8, ex-2/3

We came across this termite mound whilst hunting wild dog. Turns out that them pesky mongooses where in-situ.
Typically we arrived at lunchtime, so no chance of getting any good light, or coming back later as we were a good two hour drive from camp.

So we sat in the shade and waited for someone to poke his head out...

Comments and honest critique welcomed and thanks for looking.

Like it! Love that you have no branches or obstructions. Only suggestion would be a touch of the shadow/highlight tool to lighten the left of the mongoose just a bit. (I didn't realize 1/79th shutter speed was an option! ;) )

This is exceptional. I like the appropriate size of the subject in relationship to environmental elements. I also really like the diagonal coming down from the dirt mound. The light is tricky but well handled. The clean background, negative space left makes for a very nice package. Well done indeed Dave.

Great comp. I like how his small size is emphasized by the small size in the frame. Tough lighting handled very well.

I like this a lot - might try a little shadow recovery to tone down the contrast a bit but an excellent environmental shot.

A boiling hot day and this was midday in full sun. It was lovely to be able to watch this tiny family in their high rise home. 8) :)
