Central Calif coast, I think this is one where I used gaussian blur on the background. It really stands out.
They are neat and the throats if the bulls are covered with a work of scars from territorial wars. The white wave in the background may be distracting for some, but I kept it since it is part of the environment and even enhances that feel for me.

Great going Steve, picked up the image just at the perfect second. I spent hours by these guys last Thanksgiving and only was able to capture this once.. Thanks for a great post!

Steve,

Nice capture of the roar here in really sweet light. I do find the white wave in the background competes with the subject somewhat.

The bellow these guys make is something else again. Nice capture of the peak of the "action". Lighting is very nice with this too and I like the blue in the bg. I'm not skilled at this but I think you may be right about the work on the bg, based on the line around the animal's head. Anyway I like the effect as it certainly makes him stand out.

Nice profile, Steve! You managed to capture several images similar to this I recall. In this case, the line around the seal is fairly visible, but you did a clean job overall on the BG. Do you have one without the white wave?
