I took a series of images of this bat family, during two visits to the Rebecca's Cave on Cayman Brac (I posted another as my first post to this forum some weeks ago). Contrary to the other image, in this one they are all checking me out, but I think it was one of the first images I took and they soon lost interest in me. I especially like the eyes of the youngster peering out from between the others.

10D, ISO setting 800; 100-400 IS @210mm; camera-mounted flash at -2/3 compensation, flash as main light. Set on Program Mode, f/5 at 1/60s. When we go back I'm going to try some at a narrower aperture and see what I can do with the DOF. Amazingly, the 10D autofocused in the very dim light, much more accurately than I could have manually focused.

I cropped about 1/3 of the total frame, partly to eliminate a bright area in the UL, but also for compositional effectiveness.

They're actually cute! And you even got a mosquito in the lower left!

Lillian,

This is such a cool shot. I love how they are huddled together and all looking at you. The exosure looks great too.

I like the POV here and exposure. Maybe could be just a wee tad sharper.

This is a really cool image Lillian. The catch-lights in all 7 eyes really makes it pop! You must have been shooting just about straight up to get this perspective.

Wow! Totally 8) ! Look at the way they are hanging out together. I think the exposure is about perfect.

Good catch Lillian! I hope you didn't stand under them for too long!! they can be worse than birds for direct hits!

Can't add much to what's already been said. Love the 7 eyes with catchlights all looking right at you, and the composition works well by me. Also looks tack sharp on my monitor.

Neat shot, Lillian! They all seem curious about you. More DOF would be nice, but this one's pretty nice as is.

Cool shot Lillian. I like the colors and the composition of this. The catchlights in the eyes are striking.
