Stellar Sea Lions taken in Kenai Fjords NP in Sept 03.
Canon EOS 3, 400mm 5.6, handheld on rocking boat, Sensia 100

Not sure how good of a job I did on this one both on the composition and my photoshop work. I was trying to isolate one guy but that was hard as they tend to haul out in groups. Not sure if the is exposure is ok. I still don't think my monitor at home is calibrated correctly. Please fell free to provide any comments and criticism.

Hi Tom
Thanks for posting in wildlife. I always enjoy marine mammals. Shooting from a boat is tough, and I think it is pretty sharp considering the shooting conditions. The exposure looks pretty good. Maybe some would shoot 1/3 eV less. The shadows indicate high light which is always difficult to work with. Composition is always tough with these guys in groups, trying to isolate single animals or features of single animals within the group. I like the behavior shown here, rubbing the ear.. Thanks again for contributing..

Looks pretty darned good from here! The cats are all pretty, but it's nice to see another kind of lion for a change. :)

Check this site for monitor calibration - well, gamma at least:

Thanks for sharing your different kind of 'lion'. I have tried this from a boat and know how hard it could be. You did well here.

I agree with Dennis on exposure...maybe just a bit over but certainly OK as is. for hand held on a rocking boat in tough lighting conditions I think you did a great job on this image. maybe a little USM to get the head sharp..critical focus point on body or head?

Very nice. You've made a good job with some harsh light and difficult shooting conditions. Well done.
