Amur Tiger Panthera tigris altaica
Captive
EOS300D, 500F4L IS, 1.4xTCII, iso 400, ev-2/3, 1/125, f6.3, 1325+bh1

Here's a pic of my favourite big cat, the tiger.

So dear to me is the tiger that we have "adopted" a wild sumatran tiger thru the sumatran tiger trust here in the UK. And he's doing very well apparently.

I have not been fortunate enough to see one in the wild yet. But that day is coming I'm sure.
Until then I shall be content to sit with the five we have at our local wildlife park.

Comments welcome and thanks for looking
Dave

This cat really has the "unconcerned" look down! Great capture!

What services does your adoption provide the tiger? Funding for anti-poaching? Just curious.

Anti-poaching patrols, yes but also habitat preservation, field equipment, local education, that sort of thing.

They do great work in Sumatra, their website : http://www.tigertrust.info

Oddly enough I was going to mention his almost wistful look but that's already been said :) .

Wonderful shot Dave.. I have to second the remark about how you and Carol have come up with some spectacular photographs by continually working the local animals.. Excellent !

Thanks for those kind comments. Carol and I have spent pretty much every weekend this winter at the park. It enables us to spend time, in some cases a whole day, with each animal, instead of five minutes with everything before rushing home. Then you get to recognise behaviour and see things that might otherwise be missed.

This will always be for me, one of my favourites of your Tiger shots Dave. It has a special quality about it that just makes me want to go on looking at it. So many images try to portray the 'fierce' Tiger, but we all know there are two sides to every coin and showing that 'other' side to the Tiger nature is what you do to perfection here. THAT is what makes this so special.
