Pretty obviously what tiger stripes were designed for... :)

Seen at the Dreher Park Zoo, way back before I had any long lenses. I've always liked the way the stripes play off the palms in this shot.

Great jungle look on this one. I assume it is a Bengal tiger. I usually can tell the difference from a Siberian (Amur) but can't tell you what it is exactly. Does anyone here know the key diff? I think the Bengal is smaller and has shorter fur.

Tigers can be id'd by their size, colour and fur. Differences between a Bengal and Amur are not that easy to spot, unless they're side by side

Bengal : Pale orange with thin stripes, very few stripes on shoulders and some white on chest and belly. Second largest tiger.

Amur : Palest of all tigers, chest and belly mostly white. Largest tiger of all with the thickest coat

So I reckon this is an Amur tiger :)

Whatever it is this is a great shot Noel. I love the way the palms create shadows that look like stripes, or is that stripes that look like palm leaf shadows :?

Thanks everyone. I'm not sure which type this big kitty was. It's been too many years since that zoo visit.

Nice pose. I might have stopped down -2/3's to cut down on the hot areas and then possibly brought up the whites and highlights if needed with levels.

Nicely framed in the foliage Noel and you did well with the harsh light. 8)
