...we can go somewhere else, like Custer State Park, where there's more to see and do.

(But first, grab a hot buffet breakfast in the visitor center which will not be crowded at this hour!)

Seriously, Mount Rushmore is worth a very quick shot right after sunrise because in moments harsh shadows will begin setting in. Now that you've seen it, chow down and head for Custer and Wind Cave.

No, breakfast time. You only get a very narrow window before the shadows get really hinky there.
