This devinitely has the hand of man around his throat. Reportedly, they do not interfere with the birds.

Nice flight shot. As mentioned a bit hot. The band apparently doesn't hurt the bird like you said. At Bosque last week we saw a Crane with what looked like a coke can around its neck. A naturalist there told us that they used to band the birds like that in the 80's and that this particular Crane was probably 26+ years old. It may not bother them but it looks uncomfortable and it looks like hell.

"Reportedly" is the operative word here. I'm sure the crane would have something to say, if it had a voice in the matter. Looks mighty uncomfortable, if you ask me. As for the shot it is good and sharp though the face is over-exposed or lost in post-processing. I would also prefer a more optimal wing-position. All that being said this shot has "emotional impact" for me, though it is not on the positive side.
