Perfect timing for this week's motif! Coincidentally, I just scanned this negative yesterday, shot a week ago in Cades Cove, GSMNP. This is from the old barn near the visitor center; there is quite a collection of interesting old buildings and farm tools.

Ebony 4x5, 150mm, Fuji Acros, no filters

I think there's some real potential here, but I just can't get it to work for me... I think a bit of increased contrast might help a bit--to give it some zing, but for me the real issue is compositional. There's lots of nice elements which are cut off--like the harness at right, the wheel at the bottom. The roof beams have some nice leading lines, and maybe they could be emphasized with a small change in camera position/angle.

Or maybe your goals for this were acheived but went right over my head! :?

Different strokes :) ... but I LIKE the composition as is. I think cutting a few of the elements off helps add to the dilapidated structure and its haphazard array of tools. I also like the lack of contrast which gives this a silvery patina ... much like old, weathered wood.

Cool! I think the wheel adds so much to this!

Thanks for the replies! Actually, yes, I got just what I wanted compositionally...the intention was purposeful to cut off the wheel, etc. where I did. I've intended for everything to lead to the door, i.e. roof beams, other artifacts, etc. :)

I think this is great. I love all of the leading lines.

Danny,

Very nice, was wondering how it would look in color.

Very interesting shapes and contours. I like the B&W effect here.
