Another beautiful place in the Dolomites (forgive me, I have not traveled so much...).
Here we are inside the Paneveggio Pale San Martino Natural Park.
This is a protected natural area of Trentino-Alto Adige.
Its purpose is to protect the natural and environmental characteristics,
promote the scientific study and social use of environmental assets.

In Paneveggio there is a forest made up mainly of spruce
also called "Forest of the Violins".
The trees of this forest have particular qualities due to slow growth,
exposure to the sun and the right mix of humidity and heat;
these qualities make them resonant, or trees endowed with a wood that is able to propagate
and amplify the sound in an exceptional way.

It seems that Stradivari himself went here several times to personally choose the raw material
with which to build the sound boxes of the his prestigious violins.

At the end of October 2018, the "Vaia" storm cut down about half of the forest heritage,
but the recovery of the destroyed area has already in advanced phase
and since last autumn there are planted of new spruce trees from nurseries.

Happy New Year to all of you!

Wonderful framing and use of light. One can almost feel the music of the trees Mary. Sort of understand or maybe the right word is an affinity, as woodland has its own pulse and rhythm. It only takes a little time to adjust and enjoy it. Thanks you. Glad the recovery is in progress. HNY!

The fact that Stradivari was here to select materials makes this very special, and of course, the lovely deer bedded down show the comfort they have in this protected Natural Forest. Beautiful dappled lighting and composition, Mary!

Love the story-I've read of this place, but this is a real treat to see it, and it's content inhabitants. A beautiful scene to bring in the new year- -especially given that it is a story of recovery and hope. Thank you!

A place to renew the mind and spirit, Mary! So glad to hear that the forest is coming back from destruction - let us take heart from that and look forward to a better world.
