eBird alert has already reported a confirmed Sandhill Crane sighting in NM south of Bosque del Apache. Snow geese have also been spotted, but probably some that were injured and never left. Snow is expected in the mountains tonight. It won’t be long until the season gets underway.

Sandhills never left Oregon (they breed here) but White Fronted Geese are flying overhead so the Snows should be here any day now if not already. The Merlins are in among the vaux swifts and bats are fattening up for winter. It is getting below freezing most nights and the Aspen are golden. Love fall

13 Greater White-fronted geese were reported at Bosque September 13 and 3 Sandhills were reported in ABQ yesterday.
Here’s a resource for current bird counts at BDA.
