Well, since nobody was able to suggest better titles for my images, I'll continue along the same lines! :P Taken the same evening as the image I posted I on Sunday.

My camera was about 18 inches above the water for this shot.
Image
Technical Data
Camera: Canon EOS 20D
Lens: Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM
Focal Length: 17mm
Aperture: f/22
Shutter Speed: 6 sec.
Filters: Hoya Moose Polarizer + Hitech 2-stop GND just above the rocks + Hitech 3-stop GND at the horizon
Post Processing: Again, there is no post-processing done to this image other than converting from RAW using BB Pro. Minor levels and saturation adjustements were done during the RAW conversion.
Other: Gitzo G-1341 tripod, Markins M-10 ballhead, cable release, mirror lockup, bubble level, and wet feet in sandals that were barely holding onto the very slick and slippery rocks.

Please be honest in your critique, I'm here to learn... 8)

This is gorgeous. My only nit is that the foreground seems unnaturally light with that sky. Maybe a 2-stop GND might have been better?

I like the orange reflection in the water which tracks a large portion of the shoreline here. But perhaps this is in- (and on-) camera optimization pushed really close to the edge (no pun intended!). In that respect, I agree with the postings already made. But I have a question – was it really a deliberate choice to stop all the way out to f/22 here (because the lens itself should have an extended depth-of-field when used at it 17 mm limit)? I’m thinking that it could have been good to shorten the shutter speed by the equivalent of several stops, to get back some structure in the surface of the water.

Some magical color in sky, water and rock. I enjoy studying how they all interact differently with the quality of the light.

I like the foreground rocks and the silkiness of the water, beautiful color in the sky. I also would opt to crop some off the top, above the clouds.

Beautiful scene! Interesting effect here - with the solid mass of rock in the lower right corner, it gives the impression that the image is tilting down to the right when I look at this - although I know it isn't!! 8) :D

I was kind of an in-between situation... I probably could have removed the 2-stop GND and only used the 3-stop one, but I think that the sky would have been washed out. A 1-stop instead of the 2-stop would probably have been better. Thanks for pointing this out.

It was deliberate, as I wanted a longer exposure time to blur the water. However, 6 seconds was not quite long enough in this case, as it was very windy...

Thank you all for the kind comments and cropping suggestions!

Rob,

I really like this and the lighting on the FG rocks works for me. I would agree with Vito on cropping out some of the top blue sky may work. Also like the blurred water.

Nice execution.

I like the composition and colors a lot, but I agree that the balance in light between foreground sky is a bit off. The sky should have been - tmho - a bit brighter

I was not completely in agreement about the FB being 'too bright' but the idea of brightening the sky does appeal to me. I to would crop just a bit off the top and try to selectively brighten the sky and maybe punch up the saturation there as well.

As to the FG rocks and water -- just love it!

Thanks,

Brian
