leantos can be found throughout the adirondack wilderness. there must be hundreds of them.

i am not normally a leanto type of guy, but on a recent canoe trip, this leanto, which is perched on a bluff overlooking the racquette, seemed like a nice place to wile away some pleasant hours.

the wine and cheese had just been set out.

This has a very nice peaceful feel to is. Makes me want to curl up right there in a sleeping bag and just soak up the smells and sounds of nature (not sights because my eyes would be closed ;) ). I love the way you have placed the leanto far off center.

Mark, it's nice to see an Adirondack lean-to again - it brings back so many memories of the backpacking trips I used to go on in those mountains during the '70s. I also am not a lean-to person but there were some trips where I did not bring a tent, and with the rain being a bit unpredictable at times, lean-to's would sometimes be a welcome sight towards the end of a long day's walk.

Someday I should relate to you a story about one lean-to I came to. I'm sure it would get your blood boiling...

hey geoffs,

ah yes, leantos stories - many that i have heard or experienced are one of the primary reasons i am not a leanto type of guy.

i can honestly say that i'm glad i don't carry a gun.

happy memories.

greg - come up and try it sometime. peak foliage is late-next-weekish.
